A Expert Product Review

Product Overview Yoplait is a family of products which includes a variety of yogurts with live and active cultures. The following products are a part of the Yoplait line: Yoplait Original, Yoplait Light, Yoplait Whips, Yoplait Light Thick and Creamy, Yo-Plus, Yo-Plus Light, Yoplait Smoothies, Yoplait Delights, and Go-Gurt, Trix Yogurt, and Yoplait Kids.  The Yoplait light and YoPlus light formulas are made with no fat, but they do contain added sugar. They both come in a several flavorful fruity choices. Both YoPlus products have added fiber and both prebiotic and probitotic bacteria to activate smooth digestion. Yoplait Whips are tubs of yogurt with air whipped into a light product that is incredibly fluffy. Yoplait insists that all of the yogurt products made by their company have a substantial amount of vitamin D in every serving.
Manufacturer All Yoplait yogurt products are made by Yoplait, Inc. whose parent company is Kellogg’s.
Probiotic Strain(s) Yo-Plus and Yo-Plus Light contain both prebiotics and probiotics. These work together as a special blend which includes Bifidobacterium. These two special products, along with all of the other yogurts in the Yoplait family, include acidophilus and bifidus, helpful strains of bacteria which are in all products that carry the designation of yogurt.
Colony Forming Units (CFU) Yoplait Plus provides at least one billion live active colony forming units of Bb-12 until its expiration date. The Bifidobacterium is activated in the digestive tract by the three grams of prebiotic fiber called inulin. Yoplait does not indicate how many CFU’s are thriving in its standard line of yogurt products.
Listed Benefits and Studies The light formulas of Yoplait yogurt and YoPlus both provide important nutrients and live bacterial cultures without the added fat and calories. The active bacteria in these two special products in the Yoplait line are L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, and Bifidobacterium Lactis BB-12. These live bacteria cultures, acidophilus and bifidus, are proven to stabilize and balance the intestinal system and are beneficial to digestive health. Research is available to substantiate yogurt's ability to increase the body’s germ fighting power and support the functioning of the immune system. All Yoplait yogurt products also contain Vitamin D which helps to increase bone density and strength. Vitamin C has also been proven necessary for improving mental health. Many of these yogurts also have substantial quantities of Vitamin A which is valuable for the health of the eyes and skin.
Method of Delivery Most Yoplait yogurt comes in plastic tubs which contain a six ounce serving of yogurt. These may be packaged in cartons of four, eight, or more to make it convenient for families to purchase a week’s supply at one time. Yoplait Kids can be purchased in a tub or bottle to make it easy to provide the protein, vitamins, and minerals that a child needs. Gogurt comes in a plastic tube to help kids associate the nutritional value of yogurt with a delicious, tasty treat that is great fun to eat.
Inactive Ingredients Whole or low fat milk, calcium, sodium, and potassium are in most Yoplait yogurt products. Most also contain sugar and fruit, as well as a variety of different flavorings. Yoplait yogurts also contain Vitamins A and D and phosphorus.
Listed Directions The manufacturer recommends eating at least one Yoplait yogurt product a day to get the beneficial results of the yogurt bacterial cultures. More may be eaten if desired.
Listed Precautions Anyone with a milk allergy or those who are lactose intolerant should not not eat Yoplait yogurt products. Pregnant and nursing mothers should consult their doctor before consuming the Yoplait Plus varieties. Those with weakened immune systems should also refrain from eating the Yoplait Plus line without first consulting a physician.
Storage Yoplait yogurt products should be kept cold and refrigerated until eaten. They may be frozen and thawed to extend the shelf life.
Shelf Life Each batch of Yoplait yogurt has an expiration date on the packaging. The active cultures in this product may not be viable after the listed date.
Place of Manufacture The Kellogg’s Corporation can be found in Battle Creek, Michigan, but it has manufacturing plants in several different cities.
